Refurbishment
One area that People Seating Limited specialises in is the refurbishment of old or substandard seating. This includes everything from bringing individual automotive or rail seats up to British Standards, to refurbishing entire fleet interiors. We try to provide a "one-stop-shop" to our customers - taking care of the restoration or replacement of frames, handles, armrests and many other mechanical or plastic parts, as well as upholstery itself. Very often customers find that existing parts are obsolete or no longer meet safety standards; here too we can help. People Seating Limited is an ISO9001 registered company and we have previously worked with our customers to design and manufacture precisely what they require.
165 Fleet Refurbishment
4 years ago, People Seating Limited began a major seating overhaul of the 165 Fleet for Bombardier Transportation Ltd. Over a 24 month period, we helped renovate 32 train interiors, 25% more than our original contract.
The top covers were replaced throughout the train as were the cushion (base) assembly units. However, the vast majority of squab (back) assemblies could be restored and refitted into the trains.
As part of the contract, PSL refurbished or replaced the seat shells. Approximately 80% were replaced and repainted keeping costs low and helping reduce waste.
During the refurbishment our customer discovered that the current grab handles (fig 1), no longer complied to British safety standards and would have to be replaced. PSL designed a new handle (fig 2) that complied and fitted into the existing interface on the seat back.
